Taking the First Step
There’s always so much anticipation
We think about it
Get our supplies
Get new clothes
Put it on our calendars
We can’t wait, we talk about it, create expectations, put our name on the list, and buy our tickets
We know we should make that move, look for a new place to live or that new job
Or go back to school
Get out of a bad relationship or reconcile with a friend
Go to that meeting and get help
Reach out to God
Move on with God
Starting a Journey begins with a single step
Sometimes we get pushed, drafted, or dragged kicking and screaming, even kidnapped
That first step is always the hardest – maybe tomorrow, or next year, or after this or that happens….you know how it goes
And once you take that first step – then it seems it’s always three steps forward and two steps back
But keep moving
Keep your eyes on the prize
Even if sometimes we loose focus and can’t remember what the prize is
And so we bravely begin, we walk through the door, and we wait
We fill out papers, go through security, answer a million questions
We audition, take tests, discover we need more training
It seems we are just bouncing from here to there
We study and practice, we watch…
And then……we finally build some credibility, respect, and authority
Every journey begins with prep work
Like painting a room, or planting a garden
Lots of prep work, mostly prep work
Is it worth it? More than you can imagine……experience shows it will take longer, cost more and not end up being at all what you thought it would be
It’s much better
Get started, take that first step, do the prep work
Enjoy the journey
Do you ever think about God?
God is waiting
